Lugo
Lugo, the only city in the world with its Roman city walls still intact, is a little gem and a must-see for anyone choosing to walk the Primitive Way.
Lugo is the quintessential Roman city of Galicia and one of the most fascinating historical destinations in northern Spain. Founded over two thousand years ago as Lucus Augusti, it preserves an extraordinary Roman heritage that coexists with Galician tradition. Within the city walls lies an old town full of squares, pedestrianised streets and monuments, notably the Cathedral of Santa María de Lugo and the remains of the thermal baths. Another defining feature of the city is the River Miño and its natural importance, reflected in the 2002 UNESCO designation of the Terras do Miño Biosphere Reserve, which is renowned for its riverine landscapes.
