Clerics' Tower

Clerics' Tower

The Clérigos Tower is one of Porto’s landmarks, an 18th-century Baroque tower offering panoramic views of the city once you’ve climbed its 225 steps.
The Clérigos Tower is one of Porto’s most iconic monuments and a true symbol of the city. It was built in the 18th century and designed by the Italian architect Nicolau Nasoni in the Baroque style. Standing over 70 metres tall, it was for a long time the tallest building in Portugal and served as a landmark for ships approaching the city. The tower forms part of the Clérigos Church complex and is situated right in the heart of Porto’s historic centre. Visitors can climb its 200-plus steps to the top, where they are rewarded with one of the best panoramic views of the city, with the River Douro, the red-tiled roofs and the main monuments stretching across the horizon. Today, it is one of the most visited spots for those wishing to view Porto from above.
