CAMINO FRANCÉS DESDE SARRIA
Torre de Sarria
The "Fortaleza de Sarria" is a medieval site in Lugo. Only "Torre del Batallón" remains today, standing as a key landmark on the Camino Francés to Santiago d...
The "Torre de Sarria" is one of the most representative historic remains of the town. It is a medieval tower that once formed part of a larger fortress linked to the local lords and to the defensive system that protected the territory during the Middle Ages.
Located on elevated ground, the tower had a strategic position that allowed it to oversee the surrounding valley and the important routes crossing the area, including the present-day Camino de Santiago, which makes Sarria one of the most popular starting points for pilgrims.
Although today only remains of the tower and the old fortress survive, the site still holds significant historical and symbolic value for the town. The surrounding area also offers a small viewpoint where visitors can enjoy views of Sarria and the green Galician landscape.
Today, the "Torre de Sarria" is a point of interest for visitors and pilgrims who want to discover the town’s medieval past before continuing their journey toward Santiago de Compostela.
