STAGE 5: O PEDROUZO - SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA

We begin the final and eagerly awaited stage of the French Way. We’ll encounter a few gentle inclines, particularly as we approach Monte do Gozo, but overall the terrain is manageable. The route features a mix of country lanes, forest tracks and urban roads, especially as it nears Santiago de Compostela. The highlights of the route are Lavacolla, a hamlet where pilgrims traditionally washed themselves before entering Santiago, and Monte do Gozo, a hill offering the first view of the spires of Santiago Cathedral. We’ll enter the city of Santiago de Compostela from the outskirts, passing through the neighbourhoods of San Lázaro and Fontiñas. As we approach Calle de San Pedro, we’ll enter the historic centre of Santiago, with its cobbled streets and squares. We’ll finish at the Plaza del Obradoiro, next to the cathedral’s main façade: situated in the heart of the city, it is the finishing point for pilgrims on the Camino.
