Gijón

Gijón is the most populous city in Asturias, making it a place full of possibilities for the pilgrim.

The city's historic heart lies in the Cimavilla district, the old fishing quarter situated on Santa Catalina Hill. At its summit stands the iconic Elogio del Horizonte (Eulogy to the Horizon), a monumental sculpture by Eduardo Chillida that offers a spectacular panoramic view of the coast. Gijón is centered around San Lorenzo Beach, whose famous El Muro promenade connects the city center with green spaces such as Isabel la Católica Park. Special mention should be made of the Laboral Ciudad de la Cultura (Laboral City of Culture)—formerly the Labour University which is currently the largest building in Spain and a key landmark of Gijón's architectural heritage.
