Borneiro Castle

Borneiro Castle

Castro de Borneiro, an Iron Age settlement featuring circular houses and defensive walls, is one of the best-preserved castros on the Costa da Morte.
Castro de Borneiro, in Cabana de Bergantiños (Galicia), is an Iron Age settlement dating from approximately the 4th to the 1st century BC. It is one of the best-preserved castros on the Costa da Morte. The site preserves circular stone dwellings, cobbled streets and defensive structures such as walls, providing insight into the layout of ancient Galician castros. It is situated in a wooded area, relatively far from the coast. It is a representative example of the Castrean culture of the north-western Iberian Peninsula prior to Romanisation, and forms part of a key archaeological complex alongside other sites in the area, such as the Dolmen of Dombate.
