Cabo Vilán, on the Costa da Morte (Galicia), is a headland of granite cliffs jutting directly out into the Atlantic Ocean, known for its harsh sea conditions, with strong winds and heavy swells. Of particular note is the Cabo Vilán Lighthouse, inaugurated in 1896 and considered one of the first electrified lighthouses in Spain, built following numerous shipwrecks in the area to improve navigational safety. The surrounding area is a protected natural site of great scenic and geological value, highly representative of the Costa da Morte’s most rugged coastline.
