Cape Touriñán, on the Costa da Morte (Galicia), is the westernmost point of mainland Spain. It is a rocky headland with granite cliffs jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean, directly exposed to strong winds and heavy swells. The surroundings are rugged and largely undeveloped, with an open landscape dominated by the sea and the rugged coastline. Its geographical position makes it one of the places on the peninsula where the sun sets latest at certain times of the year. Historically, it has been a landmark for navigation in this part of the Costa da Morte, known for its difficult sea conditions and numerous shipwrecks over the years.
