A Fábrica da Luz

A Fábrica da Luz

It is currently a hostel, but its name recalls its origins, as it was one of Galicia's first power-generating stations.

"Fábrica de luz" (Light Factory) is the lovely name Galicians gave to many of the hydroelectric power plants built in the 20th century. The original structure was built in the early part of that century—between 1914 and 1915—and supplied power to Ourense, Monforte de Lemos, and various towns in the Ribeira Sacra region. Although no longer in use, the journey to the site offers beautiful scenery.
