Stage Esgos - Maceda

Stage Esgos - Maceda

An ideal stage for those wishing to enjoy the heritage of the Ribeira Sacra's interior without strenuous effort, as it is one of the easiest routes.

In Esgos, the journey can begin in the square that pays tribute to one of Ourense’s most traditional and characteristic trades: that of the knife-sharpener. After a gentle walk at the end of the first part of the stage, you reach another of the many monasteries that give the route its name: the Monastery of Santa María de Xunqueira de Espadanedo. Following another easy walk—passing through several villages where you can rest and replenish your energy—the stage concludes with the Maceda river route and arrival at the town of Maceda, home to a legendary castle.
