Stage Convento de Santo Estevo - Esgos

In this case, the route heads inland, venturing into the heart of the region to discover the mountainous landscapes and hidden gems of the Ribeira Sacra.

This stage marks the beginning of the Camiño do Monxe (Monk’s Way) for mountain enthusiasts. The Sil Canyon would not be the same without the surrounding peaks, and the trail winds its way across them. Along the route, we encounter traces of past inhabitants, such as the remains of the Castro das Pedras at the start of the journey. After reaching the route's highest point at Cabeza de Meda and viewing the Ermita da Virxe do Monte, we begin a gentle descent leading to San Pedro de Rocas—the highlight of this stage. Carved directly into the rock, this monastery is the oldest surviving one in Galicia and among the oldest in Spain. Finally, an easy path leads us to Esgos, the end of the stage.
